What We Believe

God is All Powerful, All Present, and All Knowing. He is one God revealed in three persons- the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; each having the same nature and attributes and are worthy of the same worship and obedience. (Matt. 28:19; 2Cor. 13:14)

Jesus Christ is Lord, Savior, and King! We believe in the pre-existence, virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, bodily death and resurrection, and ascension into Heaven of Jesus. Jesus is the supreme revelation of God and model for humanity. He is both fully God and fully man, and was, in fact, God reconciling the world to Himself. (2Cor. 5:19; Rom. 14:9)

The Holy Spirit dwells within every believer and unites all to Christ in one body. We believe that the fruits of the Holy Spirit are the manifestation of the character of Christ, and the gifts of the Spirit are the manifestation of Jesus' power to edify the church and fulfill the Great Commission today! (1Cor. 12-14)

The Bible is the inspired word of God and is, in its entirety, authoritative, right and just. The bible is the standard of our faith and conduct in our daily lives. (Several good translations may be used in teaching at Overflow including New King James, NIV, and NASB.)

Salvation of sinners is by grace through repentance and faith in the work of Jesus on the cross. By His blood, we are forgiven and become children of God. There are NO other means of salvation outside of faith in Jesus Christ. (Eph. 2:8,9)

The Christian Life is the process of growing into the prophetic picture of our destiny, Jesus Christ. We believe the life of a Christian should be one of love, joy, and peace. Christians should live life to the fullest, and enjoy life in the fellowship of believers. (Rom 8:29; 2 Cor. 3:18; Eph 4:13)

The Local Church is a body of believers in relationship with one another, committed to transforming lives through the power of the Gospel both locally and abroad! We believe the five-fold ministry of Ephesians 4, along side the Elders/Deacons of the church, governs the local church. Church policy is a balance between congregation and Eldership authority, emphasizing the final authority of the church leadership.

Baptism and Communion are important identifications with the person of Jesus. At Overflow we practice baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus and regularly practice the communion or covenant meal together.
